We often talk about the benefits of alternative modes of transportation, but how many of us have actually navigated the city without our own vehicles as the primary source of transportation?

The Communities by Design committee is challenging AIA members to leave their cars at home and try other modes of transportation to get to and from work during the week of May 16 - 20, 2022. Take a bus, train, bike, walk, or work from home for a day or all week. Ditch Your Car DFW aims to document these journeys and collect data about the conditions and barriers that commuters face in getting around without a car.

Raffle prizes will be given at our Happy Hour on Tuesday, May 24. Post on social media about your commutes using the hashtag #ditchyourcardfw to be entered to win a selection of prizes.

At the Happy Hour event, prizes will be awarded for:

  • Longest Commute
  • Most Creative Mode of Transportation
  • Most Modes of Transportation Used
  • Most Trips/Commutes Logged
  • Badge of Dishonor

We invite you to take up this challenge and share your commuter stories. Register here to participate!

One post equals one entry into the raffle to win a variety of prizes. To win awards and raffle prizes, you must be registered for the event, complete the post-event survey by Monday, May 23, and be present at the Happy Hour event on Tuesday, May 24.

The “badge of dishonor” award goes to the documentation of the worst barrier or condition of transportation encountered on a commute, i.e. missing/cracked sidewalks, etc.
