5:30 p.m. – VIP in-person book signing for Friends of the AD EX
6:00 p.m. – Virtual author talk

This program is free to attend, through the Greg Brown Memorial Discover Your City Fund. Join the AD EX for our newest programs, AD EXchanges! AD EXchanges are a continuation of our popular Lunch Learning Sessions series. These casual, monthly conversations will focus on everything related to architecture, design, our city, and the world. AD EXchanges are a part of our Greg Brown Memorial Discover Your City series.

To kick off the series and Preservation Month, we’ll be joined by prominent Dallas architect Larry Good, FAIA to discuss his book A HOUSE FOR TEXAS, a reflection on the historic Elbert Williams House. The home built in 1933 and designed by Dallas architect David R. Williams, is “considered to be the finest example of modern Texas regional residential architecture ever built in the state.” The first recipient of the AIA Dallas Historic Architecture Award, the residence was long considered to be at risk of a tear down, but has since been saved.

In the book, author Larry Good contrasts the Elbert Williams House with other, more traditional houses of the 1930s, lamenting that the home’s significance and its position in the overall context of Texas’ architectural history may not be fully understood by most people. This is a legitimate concern which A HOUSE FOR TEXAS addresses through accomplished writing and the striking photography of architectural photographer Charles Davis Smith, FAIA.

A HOUSE FOR TEXAS is available for purchase from the AD EX for $30.
