Women in Architecture: Stronger Together

We know what you're going through. Whether it's juggling career and family, navigating gender biases, or finding like-minded peers, the women in our network have been there.

Welcome to a new year, WiA! We have a great program planned for 2014 with plenty of events for sharing ideas and issues as Dallas Women in Architecture. Whether you want to volunteer and mentor the next generation, advance your career, or make new friends in the profession – you'll find it in WiA.

We surveyed our members late last year and, based on those results, have sharpened our focus for 2014. Most of all, we want this network to offer fun opportunities to impact the practice of architecture in Dallas. To that end, we developed three priorities for our network:

No. 1: Provide informal events for AIA Dallas women to meet and share ideas.
No. 2: Offer mentoring and career development opportunities for members.
No. 3: Inspire female students to better understand and consider architecture as a career path.

We get together for lunch or drinks on the fourth Wednesday of every month. Please join us for our next happy hour event on Feb. 26, from 6-8 p.m. at Times Ten Cellars. It's a free, non-hosted event, but please register here so we can coordinate the expected number of guests with the restaurant.

We are also looking for volunteers for Expanding Your Horizons, a career exploration conference sponsored by AAUW (American Association of University Women) for middle-school girls on March 8 at Cedar Valley College in south Dallas. Please e-mail event co-chairs Lennie Chamberlin or Karen Farmer to join up and help inspire Dallas' next generation of young women to design a future in architecture.
