Retrospect at RTKL

RETROSPECT at RTKL is part of our design culture. We have participated and supported AIA Dallas’ RETROSPECT since its beginnings. One of the most gratifying aspects of our profession is seeing the fruits of our imagination be built, so participating in Retrospect is a natural extension of our passion. But beyond just constructing an exhibit at NorthPark Center, we have taken this opportunity to create an internal Ideas Competition that will challenge our designers both conceptually and technically.

The goal of this internal Ideas Competition is to give our employees the opportunity to express their creativity in front of their peers and leaders. We are aiming at getting more RTKL people involved and also to get a broader participation from the executive level all the way down to the newly hired. The winning “idea” will determine the direction for RTKL’s 2014 RETROSPECT exhibit. As an incentive beyond “bragging rights,” we will reward the top three ideas.

Retrospect is an important event for us! It gives us a creative outlet while sharing our values and goals with the community. This internally judged competition connects our studios and stirs design dialogue. Some people are starting to share ideas, while others are keeping theirs as a surprise, and we all wait in anticipation to see the great work that will come out of this Ideas Competition.

For us, architecture does matter and it shows in the past exhibits that we have created. We try to make them as engaging as possible; after all it is a public exhibit. This year we look forward to having one of the best ideas and exhibits out there. A healthy dose of competition between firms is always fun! So we want to rally other firms and present a challenge: How will your firm stand out in Retrospect this year?
