Introducing EP!C

This year the AIA Dallas Young Professionals Network celebrates its 5th year, and what better way to celebrate this milestone than with a 5-part series!

EP!C is a new virtual educational series designed for (and by) young and emerging professionals. The series spans April through August, each session on the last Thursday of the month. Designed to be affordable and accessible to young professionals, tickets start at just $5 per session and $20 for the entire series. Additional registration options are available which include recordings of all sessions and a YP swag bag! All proceeds fund the Young Professionals Path to Licensure Scholarship to aid aspiring architects with the costs incurred during the Architect’s Registration Exam process. Check out the EP!C lineup and register today!

APRIL 29, 5:30-7:30 PM

What makes a cover letter, resume, and portfolio stand out? And how can you up your interview game? During this event, we bring together leaders from firms large and small to share do’s and don’ts and what they look for when reviewing candidates. You will have the opportunity to ask the speakers questions after the presentation. Leave inspired and empowered to craft a portfolio, resume, cover letter, and interview skills that showcase your unique personality and experience.

MAY 27, 5:30-7:30 PM

This session will provide an introduction to some of the most widely used tools of the architectural industry. Targeted at young professionals who are looking to bolster their knowledge of programs used in design and construction administration -- such as Sketchup, Lumion, Revit, BIM360, and Bluebeam -- this series will teach participants the value and capabilities of each program and the workflows to successfully utilize the tools of our trade.

JUNE 24, 5:30-7:30 PM

In collaboration with AIA/TEXO, we will virtually walk through current and ongoing project sites under construction. These site tours will focus on the Construction Administration (CA) portion of the architectural profession in hopes of removing the shroud of apprehension associated with bringing a design to life through construction. During this event, we bring together an architect, general contractor, and owner for site tours of ongoing progects at different stages where they will share advice for a smooth CA process. This course will familiarize participants with the workflow of documenting site visits, progress updates, and lessons learned.

JULY 29, 5:30-7:30 PM

By 2025, 75% of the workforce will be millennials. In order for young professionals to become leaders in their firms, they need to understand how to bring in business. Through a series of breakout sessions, this event will focus on how young professionals can create value for their firms through relationships and attracting the clients you want. We will also hear tips and advice from young professionals who have started their own practice, and how to know if you’re ready to strike out on your own.

AUGUST 26, 5:30-7:30 PM

This mixer will be the culmination of the EPiC series, connecting two segments of AIA Dallas’ young professionals base: experienced young architects with 8-15 years experience (mentors) with less experienced architects and designers (0-8 years experience). The intent is to provide up and coming professionals and/or associate members with greater support and guidance from the young but more experienced architects in the next stage of their careers. Beverages and snacks will be served, and rounds of structured conversation and networking topics will be initiated. Mentors and mentees will meet in small groups to discuss topics such as career advice, work strategies, or site exposure. Questions can be asked in a comfortable and intimate environment.
