2021 Emerging Leaders Program: Camp Summit
The mission of Camp Summit is to provide barrier-free outdoor experiences that promote personal growth and foster independence for children and adults with disabilities. Campers range in age from six to ninety-nine years old. Campers may have intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, physical challenges or multiple disabilities ranging from mild to severe.
The 2021 ELP class has been working with Camp Summit on four different projects: a camper cabin prototype, a welcome center, a landscaped path with donor recognition, and signage and wayfinding throughout the camp. The camper cabin prototype can be repeated throughout the camp to meet the anticipated need of two additional cabins and beyond as the camp continues to grow. The welcome center will house the camp's administrative functions and be the first step of the camper’s check-in process. The landscaped path will recognize donors, summarize the camp’s history with a timeline, and provide a reprieve from the busy camp setting for campers. The wayfinding will expand the camp’s mission of fostering independence by aiding campers in their ability to navigate camp.
