Join AIA Dallas and the Architecture and Design Foundation for a full-day conference to explore the affordable housing crisis through the lenses of community, policy, and financing. Building on the legacy of our past mobility and urban summits, the goal of the event is to equip architects and community leaders with the tools to encourage and promote safe, attractive, accessible, and affordable housing for all.

Jim Bailey, AIA with Alamo Architects in San Antonio joins the Housing Summit as keynote speaker and moderator of our “closing thoughts” panel. Summit panelists and moderators include: Dr. Cullum Clark, Director, Bush Institute-SMU Economic Growth Initiative; Dr. Myriam Igoufe, VP of Policy Development & Research, Dallas Housing Authority; Dr. Eric Johnson, Chief of Economic Development & Neighborhood Services, City of Dallas; Alissa Pier, AIA, Principal, A.D.L. Pier Design; Jennifer Rangel, Director of Planning and Community Outreach, Inclusive Communities Project; Kenji Tamaoki, Executive Director, Agency Financing, PGIM Real Estate; Chad West, Dallas City Council; and more.

Keynote Speaker:

Jim Bailey, AIA | Principal, Alamo Architects | San Antonio, TX
Jim leads the housing and urban design studio at Alamo Architects in San Antonio and has been responsible for the design and construction of over 13,000 housing units. He, along with his partner Irby Hightower, has played a key role in many major local planning efforts over the last quarter century including the Downtown Strategic Framework Plan and the Housing Policy Framework. He has served in official capacity on various planning-related  boards, commissions, and task forces and has initiated  a number of community-driven efforts to address land use issues and infrastructure improvements. With his deep roots in the community, broad experience, and intimate familiarity with the geospatial and socioeconomic makeup of the city, Jim is often called upon to help navigate the intersection of design and public policy. In 2019, he founded ActivateSA: a guerrilla planning initiative and think tank who’s mission is to build a robust and connected active transportation system for San Antonio and he is currently serving on the steering committee for the development of San Antonio’s 20-year, multi-billion dollar Strategic Housing Implementation Plan. Jim is driven by the belief that active listening and deep collaboration are the foundation of a future San Antonio that is just and sustainable.
